I am a super user of Primavera, among the first guys to get trained in P6 in the USA. I suggest you register for a training program with a company. The training program is normally for 5 days. If you get material, it will just be too 'heavy' for you to read through and digest. Primavera has functionalities that put it in the market segment of mini-ERPs. The only thing lacking in the system is extensive account management. As I am an expert in SAP and Oracle as well, I could share more info if you want to...
If you have anything specific that you want to solve, let me know.

The running version is P6. P7 is yet to be launched (next year fall?)... You could ask your friend to contact Evans Technologies at Roswell, GA. The contact person is Deane Evans. Your friend can give him my reference: Nikhil Gurjar, ThyssenKrupp, Mobile, AL. They conduct training at Roswell(Atlanta) every week.

Primavera is a project management solution that allows for the following:
1. A good deal of flexibility in rights administration. Although they are not always optimal, it does provide work for many situations.
2. A method of working at different hierarchies. The program can be divided into Enterprise Project Structure which groups projects. Each EPS node can have several projects. For instance, in my current engagement, I am dealing with around 60 EPS nodes and over 240 projects. The EPS and project work break down structure WBS give amazing flexibility to drill down and work out details.
3. It enables smooth working over a web based platform.

The training typically starts off with your understanding of how an EPS can be set. Its, therefore, very different from MS Project or other software. In parallel, the project organization in terms of people is defined (OBS). The third creation is that of resources, cost centers.

I suggest you get a copy of the PMBoK and read through it. With the background above, it is just a matter of understanding how the areas are handled in typical projects.

All I have is the hard copy of the material, hence, not transferrable!
