Hi Sapna

You can also do the following

1. Get the consumption of AC's ,PCs,Printers,Scanners,Refrigerator, Microwave Lift,EPBAX,lights, coffee machines etc. checked
2. Get frequent servicing done
3. Have AMCs (covering the parts of machines)
4. Use power saving tubes / bulbs
5. Keep the office dust free eg. get the lights cleaned once a month, get the UPS batteries checked
6. There are some power saving equipments available which can be installed near the main point, which controls the excess supply being sent to the machine.
7.Use LCD monitors instead of CRT monitors.
8.Use Solar lights - costly in initial stage
9. Switch monitors of your PC when you are going to be away from PC for more than 10 mins.
10.Keep the doors & windows of the office closed when AC's are on.

The most important is enroll other employees in your project of saving energy. Your admin dept can circulate a e-mail to all employees on saving power.

We as individuals cannot generate power but certainly we can save power.

Thanks for your effort towards it...

any measure aimed at energy saving or conservation can prove successful only and only when people have a right mindset. So first that realisation should be created in the minds of all staff. Once they are decided and resolved to save electricity then truly speaking no special drive or campaign is needed. However, befitting to the corporate trends, such drives or campaigns are routinely organised in the spirit of tick marking the item in the "to-do-list" prepared for the managers for purpose of appraisal or annual review which is solely aimed at annual increment. Down the line staff or workforce is usually of the opinion that it is nothing but one more excuse or reason for the company to spend some money on some drive or campaign.

It is wrong to think that recognition must always be in form of some cash rewards. Small small recognitions can also prove as an effective driving force for the staff to save energy/electricity. Examples are as below:

A small "Well Done" tag on the table of the staff whose elec. appliances/machines/pc etc. is found switched off when not in use or during the long breaks such as lunch and tea.

Monthly electrical consumption section/department wise should be displayed on deptl. notice boards and section/department with reducing consumption trend should be felicitated in some cash less manner such as publicity with photograph in house bulletin etc.

suggestions from the staff where they can point out there is some wastage of electricity or some non-productive use.

making stand alone switch/connection for illumination fixtures in the office, so that only needed fixture can be switched off while other remain off.

compulsory switching off the mains of the departments during long breaks such as lunch and tea.

It must be seen that Energy Bills are positively paid before the due date so that you can avail some discount in your bills.

Conduct a kind of brain storming sessions amongst the staff when they can come out with some brilliant viable solutions. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT FOR SUGGESTION WITH MERIT DOES NOT NECESSARILY REQUIRE ANY ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION. Suggestions from all corners must be welcomed and negation if any must be done tactfully so that tempo of energy saving is maintained.

Best way is engage your employees in this challenge of cost cutting. Be transparent and put a mail to employees regarding this. Run a program of Kaizen to save electricity in office. You ll find more creative ideas coming into a picture apart from this traditional methods. Ask your employees to share their views/ideas on this.Announce the best idea as a winner and gift them some thing. Basically in Kaizen the best idea wins. So don't deviate from your Kaizen programme as well and implement those ideas.Keep a track of difference in electricity cost for 3 months. Mail the reduction achieved by using these ideas in electricity cost per month to employees . If in 3 months you achieve 10% reduction in electricity cost announce a small samosa party for everyone.
But most important is keep your employees posted on everything, even a small samosa party will create a magic and you ll see a major improvement in this.
Its a dual thing you would be doing. Running an employee engagement drive for employees as well as cost cutting drive for your organisation.
