HR Manager should be ready to handle the worst situation in the organisation. Be it a resignation , accident, death, strike..... the list is endless. BUT he should not loose patience & complete the bridge between employer & the employee.

hi,
everyone are adding upon to madhu's qusetion, let me also be part of the wagon with my comments below-
To add upon the posts a HR manager should have down to earth qualities dealing diplomatically with peers adressing issues immediately rather taking time.
Moreover its a cooool job (no coding....) with some common sense to apply for solving complicated issues, we also should agree HR's too have 2much stress...
HR manager is the one who is responsible for choosing the right talent in right profile to extract optimum performance & Involve personally for employees growth.
Rather being management friendly:icon9: (to get their own credits) they need to understand practical difficulties encountered by employees & address them.
Regarding computer literacy' a hr manager by now should have attained knowledge on MS tools & moreover as priyanka has mentioned thay can always learn from work. getting exposed to SAP, ERP will be a value add for the individual.
got pages to add but running short of time,:icon10: friends pl contribute ur share to the thread...

A good HR manager should be friendly with both, the employer and the workers. He has to take care of enhancing productivity which is important for an organization and also look after the employee welfare. If the employees are satisfied, they will work happily and will perform to their best. He should have knowledge of Labour Legislation.

If the workers are not performing as per expectations, the HR manager has to use corrective measures for improving their behaviour without hurting them . This may include Training and Development programmes or Competitions to motivate them to work.

He has to take care of workplace climate. He has to be careful of employees' safety and security, both , physical and mental. He should be always positive and a good decision maker.

Hr manager sould be a good team leader and should be able to assume the role of a team player giving leadership to others at times. He should have good communication skills, better listening skills and excellent negotiating skills.

In all, an HR manager should possess all the soft skills!

Hi Madhu,
A good question, reading these comments by new professional will widen their views about HR MANAGER. As per my opinion half success of HR Manager is in how he deal with employee. If he is people suvey then rest thing bcomes easy to achieve. Good knowledge of applicable labour law is most valuable area and one should keep on updating his knowledge about the amendments. Ego is enemy of HR person, hence he should always keep this blunder on the gate of Factory/Office. HR person need to keep good relation up and down levels. I think if one practice these aspect will be definit successful person in HR.
