I am saurabh jain, student of MBA oil & gas second semester.
We have a subject HRM under which I had been given an assignment to work for HR challenges in special context to oil and gas industry..
Need to even select 1 company...
and have to collect their practices which will be used as a part of class room discussion.
Can any 1 suggest me how to go for it?
I am looking to prepare a questioner.... which I can send to selected company...
Can any 1 help me what special question to ask for............
While I searching i found 1 pdf file... on Paradigmz’ 2nd Regional Oil & Gas Roundtable
Its just tell abt conference but not the outcomes of it.

Your query - what special question to ask for?
As your concentrating on Oil & Gas oriented, one of the factor which i suggest while preparing a questionaire is Safety
As they face more occupational hazardous, you can move into the Health & safety measures factors like - safety rules and policies framed and followed by them - preventive measures & risk handling procedures

I had been looking through the comments posted by different friends.

I had been working with Oil/Gas Onshore/Offshore Industries for the past 6 years.

First one must understand Oil/Gas Industry before analyssing any aspects of it.The different areas in which it concentrates and then study its scopes.If u blindy start probing one particular topic without knowing the industry, it will hardly give u any fruitful results.

Regarding challenges of HR in Oil/Gas:
I would definitely support one of our friends comments on Safety. Thats one area we truly concentrate on. It does not come under the perview of HR, rather its a Technical Dpartment called HSE(HEALTH SAFETY ENVIRONMENT).

I also support one of my friend's comment that HR in most Oil/Gas industry ends up with Admin Jobs, There is nothing to complain about it. Its a highly technical area with strong focus on Core Technologies. There is hardly any room for others to even take a small bite.

HR in these industries mostly take part in DEVISING PROPER APPRAISAL FORMS,again they are never having any authority/capability to in decision making process in Appraisals. they will try to include some more parameters/or delete some to make it more effective and meaningful.

HR will come out with different entertainment events at proper time for recreation of employees.

Provide amenities (Dining cards/vacation programmes/Team building efforts by organizing get togethers etc.)

If u minutely look into the daily affairs they are oriented with the ultimate aim of making the Technical Groups happy/cpmfortable and attached to the organisation.

It is a difficult field and u don't get proper trained and knowledgable persons who can take in charge.

There is a huge demand of Proffesionals, but u don't find enough of them.

I would suggest u to visit any of the companies near by ur location and find out urself.

I've tried to share my experiences/knowledge since I'm in this field right from the beginning.
