Hi All,
I am Saqib. I want your guidence about my career.
Actually I did my M.C.A. in 2002 but due to attack on twin tower in U.S. there was a big slump in software market due to which I could not get any opening in IT Sector. I joined a BPO and worked there about 12 Months. Then again I decided to switch over.I left my job and did some courses of S/w Testing. But I was considered a fresher and my Experience of BPO was not counted.Companies were hiring the students who completed their degrees in that year.I was considered neither in Freshers nor in Experienced candidates.I was very frustrated b'coz I needed a job at any cost. At last I joined the Telecom Industry and have been working here for 9 months. This job is not as good as I expected at the time of joining.
Now plz. suggest me what should I do about my career.

Hi,
I sympathise u totally for what u have gone though, but the solution of ur problem lies in your Question itself, just that you have to be clear on what you want.
i will come to ur questions point wise:
1) u say since 2002 u r expecting to settle in ur career. but when i see ur work experience i can see ur total work experience for max. of 2 years in past 5 or 6yrs. am i right?
2) you have done ur MCA and the IT industry was slow in 2002. ok fine. and you picked up a job in BPO sector. then u did "SOME" (as u have written it) s/w testing course.
3) ur disatisfaction towards ur work affected ur career so far. u were unhappy with the tag of being in BPO hence u did a s/w testing course. and then u expect companies must hire u as a experienced candidate.
my dear friend, BPO and S/W Testing are extremely different fields, u know it. so any company wil pik u as a fresher. else u must be extraordinary to prove ur self. even now ul be treated as a fresher.
4) u have picked up a job in telecom as u needed a job at any cost, but now u feel what u have learned(education & s/w testing) is going waste or that is the field u r looking for is different.

# Now tell me where is ur experience in that field, in which u want to be. companies have the bargaining power and they get candidates of their choice.

# ur preparations need to be polished. most important of all, u must sit down n decide and make up ur mind in what field u want to settle down forever. ur shifting of sectors like bpo/ telecom/ s/w will not show consistency.

# u r a talented guy with knowledge and experience but they dont talk to each other. u must try to get things in line. u decide in what sector / field u want to settle down and then work for it.
even now the market is highly unstable, but jobs r still available.

i can just say that the question u asked is exactly the same that i faced in 2003, but today i am senior research analyst, so i understand ur problem. however i might not be able to explain it over the mail [ also that i dont want to say some things on mail as so many ppl might read it and i dont want to offend u]

which palce r u currently located and where r u looking for a job?
Just send me ur details. i will see how i can help u.
and just in case u need to ask anything or tell anything where i could help u, here is my contact number: +91- 999 999 8539.

All the best. and dont forget u r the sculptor of ur own career.

Regards,
Rohan
