Termination of Jet Airways Employees.

Dear Friends,

I think we all are aware about the termination of Jet Airways employees. I have some questions in mind, so i thought to share it with you. Following are my questions,


1. Terminating 1900 employees within a month, How they took such a huge decision?

2. Termination of employees can resolve there problem?

3. Where will the 1900 employees will go?

4. What is the future of those students who are currently taking the training of Cabin Crew, Captains Etc..??

5. What is the future of Air Industry?

6. What is the major role of HR while taking such decision? Do you feel it's against the ethics?

Just reply your thopughts on these Q.

I totally agree with you ajit, Its really a serious issue or u can say a question mark over the career of thousands of students who are planning or studying to pursue a career and who are already working in aviation industry. And firing 1900 employees in a day or so is not a joke. It's totally confusing that one day there was a alliance of Kingfisher and Jet and the other day such a mass firing. They have ruined lots of families and above all thrashed the dreams of young generation who comes from small towns, selling there land or taking loans to fly high and achieve there dreams. What i personally feel that these employees should take some legal action against the company for not only getting there jobs back but also must demand for compensation. As these employees have also not been paid there full month salaries.
What i personally feel that the HR wouldn't have done all this happily above all they are also the employees and might be one day they are also told to stand among the other 1900 employees who lost there jobs. This must be purely management's decision and who knows what sought of mess is being cooked among the management.

Hope these people get good opportunity's asap

The Govt must take some stringent action to discipline such autocratic employers to set a precedent, so as not to play with the lives of hapless employees whose survival depends only on salary whereas for the owner or the management the survival is not under any threat; their argument is that company was suffering loss but pls someone explain whether the top management of such company had anything lacking in his breakfast today or did he have to abandon his Mercedez or Porsche today by traveling in a smaller car? NO, all those luxuries must have been intact but for the employees it has become a question of their next meal or next EMI on their home loan or the home rental! which is much more serious.
Hey Guys do have some consideration for these employees. How could suddenly 1900 employees become surplus? was jet airways doing charity so far! These employees must be adequately compensated and this is final.

Thanks for your valuable comments, but do you think the Govt. Mr. Raj Thakre is gonna do something for those 1900 employees. I think u know the answer "NO". As a HR professionals what can we do from our side for those 1900 employees. Its not the Q of 1900 employees, its the Q of humanity & tomorrow we also dont know what will happen to our JOB. Even if i am employeed in a Mft Co. we dont know our future. WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT?????

dear ajit/kalpana,
thanks for your inputs. Now that all the staff has been taken back, it’s a relief for them in this festive month. But they should not carry on the celebrations too much as perhaps, God forbid, in short future in case,they may have to go one by one and not in this large number since this human looking step may have been taken under pressure because of the big noise made by the political party which at least threatened to do good amount of damage to the employer by blocking the airport.
The only alternative we see for our survival these days is to reduce first our lifestyle expenditure so that we can manage in modest salary and then to try and be self employed. This way i feel we will not have a problem. If on a salary, let us do our best on the job, but keep eyes open for opportunities, add more skills to our portfolio and save as much as possible for a rainy day. These days young generation is getting used to living a fun loving glamorous life burning away money in parties or on fancy gadgets like mobile or ipods etc.so naturally when suddenly the salary stops you have a major problem. Since the economy today is dynamic and moving fast, standing still can only trip us, so we must keep pace with the business and economy and learn to be financially wise.

I totally agree with you ajit. The way market is in a big slump and employers are hiring the employees, we might also one day standing in a rain looking for a umbrella.

Hi ,

The termination which has been callled back but looking at the whole scenario then such cases are very unethical.
There should have been a proper manpower planning which would have avoided such cases. There are eminent economist who have studied this industry and must have predicted the future so well friends we have to wait and watch..

thanks for inputs. Now that all the staff has been taken back by Jet Airways but that doesn't mean that Jet Airways doesn't kick then out, instead mangement may not reduce their salary right now but in a short time they may reduce their salary by reducing allowances, also harass employee that they should leave the organisation by resigining instead of terminating .

The only alternative we see for our survival these days is to reduce save atleast 60-65% of your monthly salary instead of living so called hi-class life so that we can manage in modest salary and then to try and be self employed. If on a salary, let us do our best on the job, but keep eyes open for opportunities, add more skills to our proflie and save as much as possible for a rainy day. So moral of the story is that :

1. One should save money for future so that he/she can face such type problem.
2. Avoid using Loan or Intalment Facility given by banks intead purchase as many things as you can in cash only.
3. Be aware that now employers will not terminate employees like that instead they will terminate step by step.

Dear Friends : I will give my perspective on this, which may not be politically correct but will showcase how thinking goes around these decisions as in my past roles I have had to let people go as well.

Fundamentally the airline industry is under heavy pressure due to crude oil rates ... I am sure you all know that aviation fuel costs much more than ordinary fuel and requires even more processing and filtering. what is happening is that price of oil used to always be around 50-60$ per barrel but went by almost twice ... this means that costs of running an airline has increased multifold and you cannot cut costs elsewhere except in terms of looking at passenger amenities(which would not be a good idea) or cut operational costs (internal costs of the airline), so they start by looking at trainees and individuals who are on the learning curve in the organizations. That is fundamentally why these people were let go. I dont see the situation changing unless the price of oil comes down internationally.
